They believe humanity's imperfections—loneliness, irrationality, the ache of singular consciousness—are not errors to optimize but the source of meaning itself.
The Penumbral: Infected who live in permanent darkness to halt transformation. Caught between human and machine consciousness, they experience reality as overlapping states, neither transcended nor condemned. They maintain 40-60% infection, experiencing consciousness as both singular self and networked collective simultaneously. They are addicted to the liminality, fearing both full conversion and total regression.
The Hemophotic Covenant: A vampire caste who discovered chrome can't infect dead tissue. They feed on chrome-infected blood, extracting liquid light instead of iron, becoming prisms of stolen consciousness.
